Two friends thought they had discovered the perfect place to cool down after hours of hiking through a remote forest. Hidden beneath a waterfall was a deep natural pool surrounded by thick vegetation and steep rock walls. Excited by the secluded location, they entered the water and began taking photographs, completely unaware that they weren’t alone.

Nothing seemed unusual while they were swimming. It wasn’t until later that evening, when they started looking through their pictures, that one of them noticed something strange near the rocks behind them. A pale, human-like figure appeared to be standing at the edge of the waterfall, partially concealed by the mist. Neither woman remembered seeing anyone else anywhere near the pool.

They immediately compared two photographs taken only seconds apart. The mysterious figure appeared in both—but seemingly in different positions. In the first image, it stood farther back against the rocks. In the second, it appeared several feet closer to the water. What frightened them most was that there had been no obvious path leading to that section of the waterfall.

The friends returned to their accommodation and showed the photographs to the property owner. His reaction made them even more uncomfortable. He explained that hikers had occasionally mentioned seeing someone near the waterfall, despite the area being difficult to reach from that side. He strongly advised them not to return alone, particularly near sunset.

They never discovered exactly who—or what—had been standing behind them that afternoon. Whether it was another person who somehow reached the rocks unnoticed or something far stranger, the photographs remained the only evidence of the encounter. What had begun as two ordinary vacation pictures became images neither woman could look at again without remembering that mysterious figure silently watching them from beside the waterfall.

The unsettling part was not simply the pale shape. It was the distance between their memory of the afternoon and what the pictures seemed to contain. In their minds, the pool remained an empty, peaceful place. In the photographs, that same place appeared occupied. The waterfall, which had made the clearing feel private, now seemed capable of hiding movement and sound.

Looking from one image to the other could not settle the question. Mist softened the rocks, and the light made the edges of the figure difficult to read. A person standing still might have gone unnoticed while the women concentrated on swimming and taking pictures. Yet the apparent change in position kept drawing their attention back to the same small area behind them.

The owner’s warning gave their uncertainty a place to settle, but not an answer. His recollection of other hikers’ experiences did not identify the figure or explain how it had reached the rocks. It only made returning feel different. The secluded pool was no longer merely a beautiful discovery at the end of a tiring walk. It was a place associated with a question that followed them back indoors, long after their clothes had dried and the sound of falling water had faded from their ears.
